liked the film, but my roommate talked about this and that, and he thought the Titanic was some boat the Japanese sank during World WarⅡ.

W: Oh, not a very bright man.

  Text 7

There was ice on the road, and a doctor’s car hit a tree and flipped over three times. To his surprise, he was not hurt. He got out of the car and walked to the nearest house. He wanted to call the garage for help. The door was opened by one of his patients. “Oh, doctor,” she said, “I just called you. You must have a very fast car. You got here very quickly indeed. There has been a very bad accident in the roadside. I saw it through the window. I am sure the driver will need your help.”

  Text 8

  W: Good morning, sir.

M: Good morning. My name is Orwell. I’ve got a reservation, a single room with a shower.

W: Ah, yes, Dr. Orwell. Would you fill in this form, please?

  M: Yes, of course.

W: Oh, excuse me, I have a cold. You’re a doctor. Can you give me something for it?

M: Give you something for it? Oh, for your cold, you mean. I am not that kind of doctor.

  W: Oh, you aren’t?

  M: No, I am a psychologist.

W: Ah, you are a psychologist. Oh, I see.

  M: Is that everything?

W: Yes. Would you like a newspaper in the morning?

  M: Yes. The Times.

W: OK, sir. Your room is 523, and how long are you going to stay?

M: Four days. I’ll be checking out Saturday morning.

W: And how would you like to pay?

M: By credit card. Would you like to see it?

W: Yes, please, and here is your key, sir.

  Text 9

W: Jack, I hear you bought a new car.

M: I did just buy a car, but it’s not exactly a new one — it was made back in the 1950s. Here, take a look at this photo.

W: You are right. This car hasn’t been new for a long time! You couldn’t afford a newer car?

M: Believe it or not, the car cost almost as much as a new one.

W: Really? How could that be?

M: Well, a lot of cars from the 40s, 50s and 60s have become collectors’ items and are worth a lot of money.

W: But this one doesn’t seem to be in very good shape.

M: The engine is still in good working condition. I plan to fix up the interior and paint the car myself. Then it will be worth even more money.

W: So then you’ll resell it?

M: No, I don’t plan to resell it, but I might enter it in some classic auto shows. Maybe I’ll win a prize.
