They’d only been in Beijing for just two days, but they looked quite at ease in their new home. And they were not shy at all with visitors.

The three “boys” and three “girls” were all around one-and-a-half years old. They were chosen from more than a dozen pandas at the Giant Panda Breeding Base in Ya’an.

And it was big excitement for some foreign tourists, because it was the first time for them to see real pandas.

A tourist from France said, “I know China has done a great job to protect them. That’s a good thing, a really good thing.”

Panda is one of the world’s most endangered animals . There are only 1,600 pandas in nature parks in Sichuan . Gansu and Shaanxi Provinces , plus more than 200 others in captivity(圈养).

Zoo keepers said that all six pandas were in the Wolong Nature Reserve when last May’s Sichuan earthquake damaged their home. Some of the pandas have not yet fully recovered ,and they get shocked easily. Zoo keepers hope that visitors shouldn’t make loud noises to help them adapt to (适应) the new environment as quickly as possible.
